According to WBNG, people in Kirkwood, NY are banding together as The Kirkwood Gas Lease Coalition in hopes of getting a better deal from gas companies.

The coalition is a group of neighbors trying to recruit others to pool their land together and lease the land through the same gas company…The coalition says the more people working together, the more bargaining power.

More and more people are doing this as time goes on, and it is very smart. Forcing companies to bargain with a larger group of people shifts the power from the companies to the land owners. Collective bargaining for gas leases will probably serve these people (and anyone else who does it) well.
