Fulton County Extension Office urges Pennsylvania residents to attend gas lease workshop

July 31st, 2008 · No Comments

The Fulton County Extension Office will be hosting an educational event aimed at discussing the ins and outs of residential gas leasing on Wednesday, July 30.

To be held at Fulton Theatre, the workshop for landowners who may be involved with future gas leasing will include several keynote speakers to touch on both the advantages and disadvantages of signing a natural gas lease.

According to Extension Director Lori Hansroth, the workshop entitled “Understanding and Negotiating Natural Gas Leases” will begin promptly at 7 p.m. and is expected to end at approximately 9:30 p.m. The cost to participate is $15 per person and will cover materials and travel expenses for presenters.

Among the topics and speakers will be a presentation by Penn State Extension educator Tom Murphy on “What and Where is the Marcellus Shale” as well as a stint by a fellow educator on what landowners should know before considering signing a lease.

In addition, Hansroth noted attorney Lester Greevy will be speaking on understanding and negotiating gas leases. Ken Balliet, extension educator, will give a talk entitled, “Dollars and Sense: Should You Sign That Lease?” All of the panel members and exhibitors will also answer questions from the audience during a question and answer session.

“Prospectors have already been visiting residents in Fulton County and asking folks to sign leases,” said Hansroth. “This course is intended to inform participants of all the concerns that should be addressed as landowners and Fulton County residents when considering a gas lease….Workshops like this have been conducted across the state and most participants of the workshops have reported financial rewards worth thousands of dollars.”
