Composting is an aerobic process that reduces or prevents the release of methane during organic matter breakdown. Methane is 26 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas and is a significant contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions.

There are composting units for organic waste that produce methane gas, making it possible to generate methane for cooking. However, when I mentioned this to an oil man, he said it would take tons of compostable waste to create enough gas.
