Do not hammer the stones to straighten the face, it is better to space them out.

How do you install landscape fabric under pavers? First, roll out a layer of landscape fabric on top of the base gravel to prevent the sand from sifting through the gravel. To maintain a perfect 1-inch depth for the sand, lay down the two lengths of PVC pipe parallel to each other and about 6 feet apart. Pour sand between the pipes, covering them.

Add a layer of bedding sand. Pour a layer of coarse sand into the pit, filling it between 1 to 1.5 inches (2.5 to 3.8 cm) deep. Avoid fine sand and combination mixes cut with limestone or stone dust. The sand will help the pavers lock together, making sure they set properly.
